Neal’s main research interest is ischaemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and organ preservation.
Neal has an M.D. from the University of Leeds awarded for laboratory research into liver IRI. He was the Royal Free London Principal Investigator (P.I.) for the multi-centre randomised controlled trials COPE-COMPARE (Lancet. 2020; 396(10263) P1653-62) and COPE-POMP (JAMA Surgery, published online April 2021). Neal was also a member of the steering committe that set up the Quality in Organ Donation (QuOD) U.K. national biobank for samples taken at the time of organ retrieval.
Neal’s early experience in robotic renal transplantation was presented at national and international conferences, winning the ESOT “6 of the best” prize at the BTS Annual Congress in 2018. These results have been published as part of the European Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) registry.
